Top 5 Drugtore Base Products

For me base coats go from foundations to concealers. You would have to find a foundation that would be right for your skin and the right colour and then you would have to find the concealer which wouldn’t be cakey under your eyes.

Drugstore or high street makeup as we call it here in the UK has moved on leaps and bounds in the last few years and with brands such as Bourjois and NYX you can find products to rival high end ones. Below are my top 5 favourite base products from primer to setting powder that I use to achieve an affordable yet flawless base.

Bourjois Happy Light Serum Primer
When priming the skin in winter I like to go for something that will create a dewy base, so I always reach for an illuminating primer. My go-to for this is the chic Bourjois serum primer that is a joy to use. Not only is it beautifully scented but the serum formula just sinks into the skin creating a lovely hydrated and slightly brighter base for foundation to be applied onto. Unlike other illuminating primer this contains no obvious flecks of glitter so you won’t turn into a human disco ball but it will bring more life to the skin and gives you a more awake complexion.

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation
For a your-skin-but-better finish you really can’t go wrong with the Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation as it blends into the skin a dream, offering just the right amount of coverage to even out skin tone. I love this lightweight foundation as it cancels out all redness for me yet leaves my skin looking like skin with only blemishes and the under eye needing to be covered up. I use so many different foundations but this one stands out the most.

NYC HD Photogenic Concealer
Next is the all important step of concealer and for this I like something opaque and creamy. The NYX HD Photogenic Concealer also known as the the Hi Definition Photo Concealer is a product perfect for the job and is often compared to much higher end concealers. This is full coverage concealer which blends under the eyes and over blemishes seamlessly and most importantly stays put throughout the day, especially when set with a little powder. Both my concealer and foundation favourites are actually loved by Kim Kardashian and Emma Stone which is more than reassuring to know! 4. SET
Gosh Prime ‘n Set Setting Powder
Although I love a dewy glow, setting my T-zone and under eye concealer is a must for me. My favourite loose powder for this job is something I’ve been using for years now and is hands down the most effective product if you want to mattify the skin – great for oily gals! With a damp beauty sponge I like to bake my under eye area à la Kylie Jenner and with a large powder brush I sweep the Gosh translucent powder across my forehead and down my nose.

MUA Luxe Strobe & Glow Highlight Kit
Lastly to add some glow and sheen to my face I love this multi formula compact that offers both a powder and cream formula. Generally I will just opt for a dusting of the highlight powder over my cheekbones but for a full on glow I will first dab on the pearlescent cream highlight and then set it with the highlight powder which gives such long lasting and intense pigmentation. This really is amazing for a drugstore product and something I’d highly recommend checking out when you are next shopping. In fact the entire MUA Luxe range is pretty good and amazing!

Let me know the prices of your five good base products and what they are. I would also love to knw your ideas of what to write in the future.

Best Of Beauty Advent Calenders 2016

Its that time of the year again where all the chocolate calenders come out in the supermarkets and they are everywhere. I am the Cadburys kind of girl.Around two years a go we saw the rise of beauty advent calendars and now each year there are so many to chose from it’s almost an impossible decision. If you aren’t familiar with a beauty advent calendar, behind each door up until Christmas you are met with travel (and some times full) sized products that you can try out and use. Definitely a little more long lasting than the chocolate that’s for sure. It’s a great pre-christmas gift or treat and also a nice way to discover new brands and products you might not have discovered otherwise. I’m going to give you a brief run down of some of the calendars I’ve got my hands on this year, and don’t worry, I don’t give away the entire contents, only a few sneak peeks. I don’t want to be ruining the surprise for you!

NYX, £60-  NYX is fast becoming one of our go-to brands for makeup, their matte lip creams, dewy highlighters and pigment-packed eyeshadows rival many high end brands when it comes to quality. Now you can get all their hero products in a 24-piece advent calendar, perfect for both beauty beginners and the makeup obsessed, alike.NYX beauty advent calendar 2016

Jo Malone, £280 – Jo Malone has gone to town this Christmas (and not only in its uber pretty Georgian townhouse design) – this decadent collection contains both mini perfumes and scented body creams. So if you’re a perfume fanatic and can’t decide on one to put on your Christmas wish list, this is perfect.

Beauty Advent Calendar 2016

Kiehls, £95 – The must-have calendar for all you skincare junkies. 24 of their award-winning products (in adorable travel-sized packaging), including cult favourites like Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Creme de Corps.

In conclusion, this year is definitely the best year for choice with beauty advent calendars and there is no doubt that many people will be opening these doors every day with excitement and surprise. It’s all down to personal preference when it comes to choosing one, but hopefully this has enlightened you and given you a bit of guidance. So whether you want to stick to your chocolate calendar or switch it up for something different, the choice in endless.
